While patients and their families worry about getting desperately needed care at the end-of-life, hospice agency administrators worry about getting "stuck" with patients who cost "too much." Why? Because there is a new "carve out" experiment to allow hospices to serve Medicare Advantage patients that has a monthly cap on reimbursement for each patient. The hospices don't like the "cap" limiting how much money they would get for these patients.
They call it "risk." Hmm... Would that they would worry more about serving the patients and not paying their CEOs $1 million or several hundred thousand dollars per year! (Yes, some of them are paid that much while skimping on care for you and your loved ones!)
