"By Any Means," or His Way
Only the evil-minded would condone the use of any means whatsoever to achieve their goals, but that is quite common today. Lying, telling half-truths, and manipulating patients and their families to get the results they want is common. The evil-minded will use any means however evil to achieve what we would consider quite evil goals! Those who honor the divine moral law and natural law will reject evil means to achieve their goals. They would be viscerally repulsed by such evil means!60
For thousands of years, invading armies and peoples have used any means available to them to conquer and subjugate peoples and nations. When war breaks out, the same rationale is put into practice in various parts of the world. Kings, nobles, aristocrats, tribal chiefs, military leaders, and warlords have used whatever means necessary to acquire and maintain power over the people.
The Nazis, communists, and Islamists did the same. About 21 million non-combatants or civilians were killed by the Nazis, and about 100 million were killed by all the communists in the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and elsewhere!
While many know about the genocides perpetrated by the Nazis and communists, most people have no idea that over 100 million have been killed in India and many parts of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and yes, Europe, during the 1400 years that the Islamists have waged total war against any who refused to convert. That they might spare "innocent civilians" who were not warriors was never a consideration. Civilians and soldiers alike who fought back were killed. The rest were either raped, enslaved, or in some instances, "mercifully" allowed to live but forced to pay the tax on non-Muslims.
It should be said that Western nations have also killed the innocents in wars of conquest for empire-building, and made their victims die by other immoral means. However, wars of conquest and victimization of the innocents is not supported by any truly Christian ideology and is actually prohibited. It is only wrongly in the name of Christianity that many egregious wars have been waged by those who claimed to follow the dear Lord.
The difference is that the basic ideologies of Nazism, communism, and Islamism not only endorse global conquest through total war, any other means available, and the victimization of the innocents, but they command it. The way of life shown by the dear Lord Jesus rejects all of these, but allows defensive action or even war when others attack or make war against the people and nations.
The idea that Christians should never defend themselves was never taught by the dear Lord Jesus. While the religious leaders, monastics, and others may choose that path — and an individual should choose that path if it's figuratively or actually merely a "slap on the face," Jesus never condemned those who were soldiers or others who defended a nation, any of the people, or themselves from attack (Luke 22:35-38).
While He didn't take a political position regarding the Romans — and they certainly committed many atrocities — He did not condemn the Roman centurion who came to Him to save his servant (Matthew 8:5-13) simply because he was a soldier. To defend people against any number of aggressive invading or criminal forces is a natural right and not a sin; it is heroic.
As He said,
Greater love has no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.
— John 15:13
While He clearly was referring to His own sacrifice for all of us, it surely also applies to those who sacrifice themselves in the heroic act of saving others. Policemen, firemen, soldiers, healthcare workers, certain technologists, and others who run towards physical, biological, or other threats to life in order to save others do so because of their love!
As a response to Nazi and Japanese atrocities committed during their wars of aggression against the peoples of so many nations, before and during World War II, many nations adopted the Nuremberg Principles in the hope that these would prevent future war crimes. The use of biological, chemical, or other weapons of mass destruction is prohibited.
The Nuremberg Code and Geneva Convention, and other ethical standards were adopted with the hope they would prevent future medical crimes. Unfortunately, all of these have at some point also been violated.61
Many do not even realize that the Nuremberg Code was not adopted by the United States or Germany after the war.62
Can these crimes of war and "peace" happen again? Will they? Like those approaching freight trains, some crashes are inevitable. To understand more, we should learn from the patterns of the past. Otherwise, we will experience these horrors of war, hunger, sickness, and death.
How did the Nazis' criminal atrocities arise approximately 90 years ago? In the 1930s, the Nazis slowly gained political power in Germany as a reaction to the crushing economic and other punishments heaped upon the German nation by the Allies who defeated Germany and its allies Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria in the First World War.
The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to pay huge sums of money, reduced the size of its military, and large sections of Germany were given to surrounding nations. The people suffered severe economic hardships and humiliation.63
Under clause 231, the 'War Guilt Clause', Germany had to accept complete responsibility for the war. Germany lost 13% of its land and 12% of its population to the Allies. This land made up 48% of Germany's iron production and a large proportion of its coal productions limiting its economic power.
The German Army was limited to 100,000 soldiers, and the navy was limited to 15,000 sailors. As financial compensation for the war, the Allies also demanded large amounts of money known as 'reparations'.64
Through brutal intimidation, increasingly aggressive discriminatory legislative and police action, and war, their iron grip eventually allowed them to seize total control over the nation, and later spread their occupying troops throughout most of Europe.

Sudden Change, Sudden Destruction
For example, until the horror of Nazi oppression fell upon the many Jewish communities throughout Europe, the people lived in blissful ignorance of the terrors that awaited them. Even when warned, the people did not believe any catastrophe would destroy "their world."
Like Zedekiah, King of Judah, about 2600 years ago, life seemed "great" until it was not (2 Kings 24-25, 2 Chronicles 36, and the Book of Jeremiah). Zedekiah and his advisors refused to believe the seemingly preposterous warnings that the prophet Jeremiah shared with them. However hard the life the Jews had in Europe, it was infinitely better than what the Nazis did to them!
Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, wrote about his and his father's horrific experiences from 1944-1945 in the Nazi death camps, Auschwitz and Buchenwald.
At the beginning of his book, Night - originally more revealingly entitled "And the World Remained Silent" — he wrote the following about one seeming "madman" named Moishe the Beadle, who had been rounded up by the Nazis and later had mysteriously returned to share just such anecdotal but accurate "stories."65
"One day, as I was about to enter the synagogue, I saw Moishe the Beadle sitting on a bench near the entrance. He told me what had happened to him and his companions. The train with the deportees had crossed the Hungarian border and, once in Polish territory, had been taken over by the Gestapo. The train had stopped. The Jews were ordered to get off and onto waiting trucks.
The trucks headed toward a forest. There everybody was ordered to get out. They were forced to dig huge trenches. When they had finished their work, the men from the Gestapo began theirs. Without passion or haste, they shot their prisoners, who were forced to approach the trench one by one and offer their necks. Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns. This took place in the Galician forest, near Kolomay. How had he, Moishe the Beadle, been able to escape? By a miracle. He was wounded in the leg and left for dead...
Day after day, night after night, he went from one Jewish house to the next, telling his story and that of Malka, the young girl who lay dying for three days, and that of Tobie, the tailor who begged to die before his sons were killed.
Moishe was not the same. The joy in his eyes was gone. He no longer sang. He no longer mentioned either God or Kabbalah. He spoke only of what he had seen. But people not only refused to believe his tales, they refused to listen. Some even insinuated that he only wanted their pity, that he was imagining things. Others flatly said that he had gone mad.
As for Moishe, he wept and pleaded:
"Jews, listen to me! That's all I ask of you. No money. No pity. Just listen to me!" he kept shouting in synagogue, between the prayer at dusk and the evening prayer.
Even I did not believe him. I often sat with him, after services, and listened to his tales, trying to understand his grief. But all I felt was pity. "They think I'm mad," he whispered, and tears, like drops of wax, flowed from his eyes.
Once, I asked him the question: "Why do you want people to believe you so much? In your place I would not care whether they believed me or not... "
He closed his eyes, as if to escape time.
"You don't understand," he said in despair. "You cannot understand. I was saved miraculously. I succeeded in coming back. Where did I get my strength? I wanted to return to Sighet to describe to you my death so that you might ready yourselves while there is still time. Life? I no longer care to live. I am alone. But I wanted to come back to warn you. Only no one is listening to me ..."
This was toward the end of 1942. Thereafter, life seemed normal once again. London radio, which we listened to every evening, announced encouraging news: the daily bombings of Germany and Stalingrad, the preparation of the Second Front. And so we, the Jews of Sighet, waited for better days that surely were soon to come.…
The "better days" surely did not come! After incrementally enacting discriminatory "Nuremberg Laws" in 1935 against the Jews, labeling them sub-humans, picturing them as animals in cartoons and articles in the newspapers, treating them harshly in the streets and elsewhere in society, allowing crimes against them to go unpunished, blaming them for all the economic hardships in Germany, depriving them of their firearms, enacting laws that prevented them from living as fully participating citizens of the nation, shutting down their businesses, the Nazis then established martial law and forced the disempowered into heavily-guarded ghettoes with almost no ability to escape.66
The Jews did not simply walk blithely into the gas chambers or furnaces of the death camps! They did not fail to fight for their rights or their lives! Many were killed simply for speaking out. They protested, and many refused to be treated so poorly. These were killed on the spot in public early on to teach the others the lesson: "Submit or die!"
Does this sound familiar? Islamists use the same tactic: "Submit! Convert! Or die!" All tyrannical cultures of death do the same once they attain complete power in government.
Those few who were able to escape either became part of an underground resistance fighting the Nazis or fled to other nations where they thought they would be safe. Many of these were eventually rounded up even in those faraway European nations and sent to their death!
Most of the Jews, Roma (gypsies), Christians, and any others who protested were gathered together, brought to nearby forests and executed, forced into slave labor to support the Nazi war effort or into death camps, starved to death, experimented upon, or death marched.
My relatives of just a few generations ago lived at that time in areas controlled by the Nazis and communists: Eastern Poland, Ukraine, and Russia; some were certainly put to death there.
Today, the targets are still the Jews, but the Christians are as well! In many nations around the world, Christians are being killed by the hundreds and thousands. Entire churches have been destroyed and their parishioners killed. This time, conservative Christians are the target of the Left and the Islamists. "Every day in France, two churches are desecrated. They report 1,063 attacks on Christian churches or symbols like crucifixes, icons, and statues in France [alone] in 2018, marking a 17 percent increase from the year before."67
Close to 100,000 Christians are being killed every year because of their faith, according to statistics from a Pew Research Survey and the International Society for Human Rights, a non-religious organization.
These … amount to 273 Christians killed daily, or 11 every hour....68
It is time for you, me, and all around to wake up! Who do you think is killing the Jews and Christians around the world? Isn't it clear by now? Remember those freight trains heading toward each other? Think about what you could do floating along on a raging river with white water rapids all around and boulders sticking up ahead — all while paddling on a tiny raft.
Of course, it is human nature to tell oneself "Everything will be OK," or to assure others "Everything will be OK," even if you don't believe it. We don't want to scare those we love. We do not wish to think about the loss of the lives we live, our careers, our relationships, and our families. We do not wish to think about our own death or the death of those we love. We tell ourselves - as did the Jews during the Nazi era — "Such things are not possible!" "Nobody could do these things!"
We don't wish to think about the complete destruction of the life and society we have enjoyed. But, war victims have tasted that ending of the life they knew, the lives of their family members, and the society they have cherished. They are the refugees from all the wars past. They are the over 70 million refugees so many of us briefly hear about in our time, while we sit in our comfortable chairs or sofas and sip a cup of tea, or drink our coffee or beer.
They are the ones we see in news videos who have been forced to leave everything behind and walk along dirt roads with almost no possessions. They are the emaciated who trudge on with blank expressions on their numbed faces! They are the ones who have no more tears to shed!
By the end of 2018, 70.8 million individuals were forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, violence or human rights violations. That was an increase of 2.3 million people over the previous year, and the world's forcibly displaced population remained at a record high.
This includes:
25.9 million refugees in the world-the highest ever seen;
41.3 million internally displaced people; and
3.5 million asylum-seekers.69
What does the dear Lord tell us?
Give justice to the weak and fatherless!
Uphold the rights of the wretched and poor!
Rescue the destitute and needy;
Deliver them from the power of the wicked!"
— Psalm 82:3-4
But is this what we do? Do we care? Do we bother to do anything to help them? Do we sacrifice the time we waste in endless entertainments or some of the money we have that we also waste on more and more acquisitions we do not really need? What are we doing with our lives?
Today, oppression of the helpless continues. People just won't listen to the anecdotal stories that seem preposterous. Even if they hear about terrible crimes and so many deaths, they want more proof! Or, they tell themselves as they turn away, "That won't happen here!"
As they listened intently on their radios, the Jews, Roma (Gypsies), and others told themselves the same thing: "That won't happen here!" But then when it did happen there, it was too late!
Suddenly they were swept along in the "rushing river" of their times and — like the apostle Peter (John 21:18) who was crucified for his faith — were forced to go where they did not wish to go.
Though there were many, many reports of these atrocities, and though the Allied military leaders knew the death camps existed, there was no absolute and reliable proof how many the Nazis were killing till the military forces entered the death camps and liberated those few who had survived, or dug up a multitude of mass graves. The scope of the genocide was beyond belief and understanding!
For those who condemn anecdotal accounts or evidence, we should recognize that anecdotal evidence lays the foundation for further scientific empirical study and statistical analysis. In this case, the anecdotal reports were absolutely correct!
However, when the government itself is the force behind the killings - as it was with the Nazis — no exhaustive scientific studies are permitted or they are not intended to ever be released! Although the Nazis kept meticulous records, they did not want the world to know what they were doing or had already done.
They assumed that they would win the war and they would control and hide whatever records there were. But before the truth was revealed to the world by the Allied soldiers, all that some had were these anecdotal stories.
The Nazis perfected medical murder through the use of morphine overdoses. They also used grotesque methods of medically experimenting upon live children, women, and men like you and me that are unmentionable, just like the Chinese and Japanese did during these wars that happened not so long ago.70
Those cultures were quite far from being pro-life, Judeo-Christian cultures. They were either fascist, feudal, or communist and, though individuals themselves valued their own lives and the lives of those they loved, the rulers could and did execute any of them with impunity when they wished to do so and decided to find a justification to do so! They made and interpreted their own laws!
Today, the governments are hiding the reality that patients experience in many healthcare settings. The media are hiding the reality patients experience in healthcare settings. When some of us are perceived to be "unworthy of life," whether we enter the hospitals or simply live in our own homes or facilities, the referrals to tainted hospice care or palliative care settings is set in motion.
Very aggressive tactics are used to encourage patients and their families to agree to such placement. There are a significant number of healthcare professionals who are just as utilitarian as the Nazis, and they are executing the vulnerable elderly, chronically-ill, and disabled, just as the Nazis did long ago.
The reports of such undeclared medical killings, i.e. stealth euthanasias,71 are too numerous to count! And yes, because the government bureaucrats and officials support it in order to save billions of dollars, no studies are allowed that would prove how many are being killed.
There are dozens of methods to make patients die. They are not all directly overdosed with opioids. Some are terminally-sedated into death as Ira Byock, MD has taught. Some, who are suffering from chronic conditions, have their stabilizing medications withheld in order to precipitate a life-threatening crisis. Some are deprived of food and water. Sometimes, all of these and other methods are used.
This is covert euthanasia. Those who are victimized are lured in through deception! Openly acknowledged assisted-suicide is not the only way people unnaturally die in healthcare settings. Many more are medically killed through stealth euthanasia and it is long past time for the world to wake up to this horror that terrorizes those who know they are being put to death, just like those who were stuffed into the gas chambers at the death camps!
Tainted hospice facilities have become our medical death camps, and their indoctrinated hospice staff believe they do no wrong even when imposing death upon the helpless! How few authentically life-affirming pro-life hospices remain today!
Like people from the beginning of time, the Nazis thought they knew better what was right or wrong. Many of them then, and many of our healthcare workers and physicians now, openly assert that they even know better than God Himself or, that He doesn't even exist!
If they — or we — recognized that relatively speaking, they knew nothing compared to the actual all that He knows, they would have lived life quite differently and never done the horrific evils they did. The healthcare professionals today would never do the evil deeds they are doing right this minute somewhere in the world.
The Divine Radical Heart of God
If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that at some point in our lives, every one of us has thought we knew better than He. However, He would differ (Job 38-42)! From the start, that has been our tragic problem.
We are told:
So God created humankind in his own image;
in the image of God he created him:
male and female he created them.
God blessed them:
God said to them,
"Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it .... — Genesis 1:27-28
Through His great and unfathomable goodness, He created all things and among them, mankind as a male human being and as a female human being, and both reflect His image, and as created are both good. Yet, we later read that:
The Lord God, took the person, Adam,
and put him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and care for it.
God, gave Adam this order:
"You may freely eat from every tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
You are not to eat from it,
because on the day that you eat from it,
it will become certain that you will die."
— Genesis 2:15-17
It is clear that they did not die immediately upon eating from that tree, so the meaning is that they would become mortal and die eventually. However, God did not want them to die. Out of His wisdom, He guided them (and us) to follow His just law and to trust in Him!
But, being finite and fallible as we are, they disobeyed. Can you imagine if you were given that command? "Everything but this one thing is forbidden to you!"
What would you do as the days and even years passed and you saw that tree and its fruit?
Have you ever told a toddler or young child not to touch a hot stove or not to climb up to a shelf in a closet where you hid things that were unsafe for them? The first thing they will do when you are not there to stop them is to reach up and touch that stove or climb onto a chair or ladder and see what is there. They will test for themselves to see if what you said is true! In their own way, they think, "I know better." "Mommy and Daddy are wrong!"
In this story, before the Fall when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree, there was no knowledge of good and evil, because they had not yet disobeyed and evil had not come into existence. There was no sin in them and they were able to see the dear Lord walking with them in the Garden.
It is only when they considered the then increasingly tempting and pressing issue of the forbidden tree that they chose to place greater faith in their own understanding than His direction and prohibition!
They decided that they knew better, having doubted His prohibition, and then chose to listen to the voice of the serpent who deceived them.
Acting according to that deception, they rebelled. But, the deceiver, the serpent, was not responsible for what man chose then or what we choose today. They were, and we are responsible, because we have free will.
And what did they do after they rebelled? They hid from Him! And what do we do throughout our days? We hide from Him most of the time as well, though most of us lie to ourselves even about that!
We bury ourselves in all sorts of activities, entertainments, diversions, and celebrations. Songs of praise for God are now abandoned and such songs of praise are used to celebrate great deals on the purchase of a car, the acquisition of a product, or winning prize money.
When do we truly celebrate His great glory? When do we pause and recognize that we owe absolutely everything to Him?
How little of our time we devote to Him! How little do we even remember Him during the day!
Though He knows very well, He calls to us trying to get our attention just as He called to Adam and Eve, "Where are you?" and again He entreats us to hear Him (Revelation 3:20). He calls to us: "I am here!" "Come here!"
From the beginning, He created a way for man to be blessed and to find a renewed relationship with God
For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish,
but have eternal life.
— John 3:16
Just think about that!
If we were not hiding from Him, He would reign in our hearts all day long, and our hearts would melt with His love. They would overflow with His grace and loving presence, and He would bless the work we do (Psalm 1:1-3).
Far from remembering Him all day long, we forget or even deny Him. Or, even when supposedly remembering Him, we mouth prayers mechanically with hearts that are as dry as a desert. We debate academically about things we know nothing about, in fact.
With such dry and shriveled hearts that grow angry when anyone challenges our theological beliefs, some will ask, "Is He like this?" or "Is He like that?" "No!" we shout. "He is …!" and we may believe all others who disagree with us are terribly mistaken. "How dare they think differently!" we say to ourselves and anyone who will listen. Our arrogance remains untouched.
But the dear Lord does not change, nor is He controlled by our pronouncements about Him, our philosophical theories, our varying theological conclusions, or our plain confusion. He remains perfectly Loving, Wisdom, Life, and Intelligence themselves. The shining radiant flames of His Holy Presence at the burning bush were revealed to Moses as He allowed, but that shining Being has never disappeared!
However, most of us have not given our lives and all of our will and all of our heart to find Him and then be enabled by His grace to perceive His presence. He remains as He has always been.
And just as we remain ourselves but act differently depending upon the circumstances and times, He can express Himself in many different ways as He sees fit, as He chooses to reveal Himself, and as we allow ourselves to hear Him.
Yes, the philosophers and theologians endlessly debate whether God is "this" or "that" and seek to define Him, but His actual nature is a mystery beyond human understanding!
He is not controlled by our logical conclusions about Him! His actuality does not depend upon us or anything at all! The light of His being shines whether we bow down in reverence or turn away due to our utter ignorance and folly.
He has what we perceive as different qualities, but they are all not just "part of His same Being," or "different aspects of the same Being," but actually the same Being and no different from the other.
It is we who perceive Him differently and assign these qualities to Him due to our limited ability to understand the One reality. For example, we might imagine a sparkling sapphire blue flame extending infinitely in all directions radiating His infinite intelligence, or a sparkling ruby red flame expressing His infinite Being and life.
Should we conclude that He is one but not the other? Should we not recognize that He is actually the Life and the Intelligence behind all that is, all at once?
Should we not recognize that as we are mysteriously made "in His image," the life and intelligence that He breathed into us when we first existed are also one? Or that our life cannot be separated from the intelligence given to us within our souls?
Can a living thing exist without intelligence being part of its process of living? Never! If it lost the intelligence guiding everything it does as it exists, it would be dead already.
Even more so with regard to Him. Are two branches of a tree not equally the tree? If He expressed Himself as an infinite variety of sparkling colored flames that altogether comprised the white light of His eternally existing Being, for example, there is no contradiction in that.
Could He be pure Loving while also expressing anger and disapproval for the things we do? It seems a contradiction to our limited minds, but He is not limited by what we can understand or logically explain!
The sacred heart of God reveals Himself in the moment to those who open themselves fully to Him and end their attempts to hide from Him. He is ready always, but tragically we are not (Revelation 3:20).
Just as a parent momentarily chides a child for crossing a street and endangering him or herself, His seeming anger is an expression of His unending Love. But that is where those who doubt Him most often go wrong.
They imagine some all-powerful, supersized human being suspended in space looking down on us with contempt, like some of us might look at ants or even bacteria. They imagine themselves or another being that powerful, that big, that all-knowing, and cannot imagine caring one bit for something or someone as tiny as a human being.
They say to themselves, "Why would such a Being care at all for something as insignificant as me?" And that is the miraculous, marvelous thing!
His Love is so all-embracing that He does care about what would be terribly insignificant to us. He cares about each one of us deeply, more wonderfully than any of us could ever care (Matthew 10:29)! Those blessed who have met Him know this to be so without any doubt!
Yes, one thing is sure, all of us spend most of our time fleeing from Him even though we may say we want Him, love Him, or are obedient to Him. Although so many would and do deceive us, we deceive ourselves!
The Purpose of Life is Life
Many of us have forgotten or have never truly understood why we live! This may sound simplistic to many, but if we observe all of Nature — every life form on Earth — and consider every society of man, it becomes clear that all living beings strive to perpetuate their kind. This is how all of us were created to be.
From asexual bacteria and other primitive life forms, to plants and animals that have their male and female kinds, or aspects, there is a never-ending dance in Nature that we call life, and our lives are a part of that dance!
The drive to survive and live is considered the greatest drive of all. All living beings strive to survive when threatened, and each being's nature enables it to combat many of the various threats that surely eventually arise.
Every living being does have a biological drive to live, prosper, and — when the opportunity arises as may be appropriate for the species - participate in the creation of new life. And we also have the drive to protect and defend the lives around us. It is instinctively built into our being.
Like seeks like, and life seeks life and then greater life. Those individuals of any species seek their own kind. The capacity for love was planted in our hearts by our Creator so thoroughly that man naturally seeks unfailing love and greater and greater love. Though I and so many tried to find it in another, that sweet and intoxicating Love is only found in Him. The plan for man's restoration, fulfillment, and greatest happiness existed all along as He was creating us. Do we finally understand?
Only those who are so terribly wounded and alienated from their own nature would refuse to participate in the greatest joy of life: the creation of new life here on Earth and the adoration of the Beloved here and above!
Only those who are terribly wounded and misguided would kill the new life within or around them.
Only those who are terribly lost would find joy in killing or justify killing the vulnerable.
Beware! Be forewarned!
The "freight trains" of our time are approaching at a frighteningly rapid speed, and those radicals who historically have found joy in killing now seek to ascend to the seats of complete power in our society and government. They brazenly speak out with hatred dripping like blood from their ghoulish mouths and have no shame and certainly no mercy at all.72
When these find resistance to their diabolical agenda, violence and war will be inevitable. Brother will fight brother, sister will be against sister, parents against their children, and the path to safety in this world will be uncertain (Luke 12:53).
Yes! Though it is right to defend ourselves and others (Luke 22:35-38), it is our duty to affirm the value of all, not by making sure others do so, but by ourselves caring for those in need right where we are — in the lives of those around us.
It is His love within that compels us to speak out and defend life.73
While there still is time, those who recognize the humanity in all and the common thread that joins us all together in life, must speak up! Silence is betrayal!
We must recognize and affirm the Divine Law He gave us (Exodus 20) as well as the natural moral law known to any one of us who uses his or her own ability to reason rightly. We must explain these things to those who do not understand. We must reach the young and appeal to their hearts and minds!
Though some say that man cannot know what is right or wrong, this natural law is something that just "cannot be … unknown by normal mature persons…"!
The first principle of the natural law can be known by all!
"The good is to be done and promoted, and evil is to be avoided."
Another way of saying this is that we must "lead a life in accord with reason" and "seek … [our] last [or ultimate] end."
What is that good? It is "that which all things seek after," and we know that all beings seek life! Life itself, for oneself and all others is the basic good in this world. Therefore, we must try to protect others! However, the ultimate good is found in the dear Lord Himself — unending Life.
The principles that follow are so basic, we and all mature human beings do know what they are, they are planted within our hearts - our very being!
"Preserve your own being."
"Care for your offspring."
"Treat others with fairness."
"Be faithful to your friends."
"Do not murder."
"Adore God."74
Yes, He has planted each of these principles within our hearts (Jeremiah 31:33), and we must adore and revere the dear Lord Himself while we go about our lives each day! Our leaders must not busy themselves making more and more oppressive laws just to justify their own existence as officials in the government. Their proper role is to serve the people and protect the lives and God-given freedoms of the people!
As the Frenchman, Frederic Bastiat, wrote in his booklet opposing the socialist trend rising up in France, describing "the Path to Dignity and Progress":
Law is justice. And it is under the law of justice - under the reign of right; under the influence of liberty, safety, stability, and responsibility - that every person will attain his real worth and the true dignity of his being. It is only under this law of justice that mankind will achieve - slowly, no doubt, but certainly - God's design for the orderly and peaceful progress of humanity.75
Just law in any society will conform to the Divine law and the natural moral law and would never be applied for the benefit of any one individual at the expense of the other (Exodus 23:1-9). That would be despotic! Just law is determined through the application of practical reason.76
Without reverence for God, there is no true reverence for life and understanding of the sanctity of life. Without this reverence and without this understanding, there is no respect for an individual's life or God-given rights. Without this reverence, no just law can be applied, and therefore there is no culture of life.
Without just law, the people are oppressed, led astray, and suffer even more when the leaders issue more and more burdensome laws and regulations. They become so numerous that nobody can know them all!
The time is fast approaching — and in some cases has already arrived — where those who steadfastly love and adore the Lord will separate themselves and their children from the indoctrination imposed through the public schools, universities, and media and entertainment industries. It doesn't mean that they will necessarily live in remote areas of the world, but it does mean they will network with those who are part of the culture of life and that they will not support the encroaching tentacles of tyranny!
Tragic as the misuse of all of these may seem to some, the perversion and degradation that is constantly celebrated and encouraged is a poison that need never have been served up to the public. These have just increased the anxiety, anger, and unhappiness of so many. They have left some in such despair that they have lost a sense of purpose in life and tragically, some of these have committed suicide! This is the fruit of the culture of death (Matthew 7:16).
John the apostle of the dear Lord Jesus explained to all of us:
Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
'Come out of her, my people,'
so that you will not share in her sins,
so that you will not receive any of her plagues
— Revelation 18:4
The reality is that the culture of death has arisen and enlarged itself and pervades our world. The time to "come out of her" is now. Those who have children in school will homeschool or send them to certain private schools if they can. If their children attend universities, the choice among universities cannot be made lightly as many, many young adults have been indoctrinated upon entry to the university and embraced the tempting illusion of a Leftist utopia or an Islamic State here.
While the academic environment should present many differing points of view and allow free debate and inquiry, in a very large majority of cases, most universities are actually imposing a narrow-minded Leftist worldview while actively condemning and discouraging those who affirm their faith, the sanctity of life, and who do "cling" happily to their Bibles and beliefs.
The same applies to houses of worship where some have gone astray. People need to discern and understand whether what is being taught actually is true, if there is a real uplifting presence that opens their hearts, and if they experience a greater closeness to God, an expansion of their faith, and a deep reverence for God and life.
Without reverence for life and without just law, the sanctity of the marriage covenant which exists only between a man and a woman is not recognized. The understanding that children and family arise from the mutually loving and respectful relationship between husband and wife in marriage is perverted.
Without reverence for life, the harms that arise from deviations from natural marriage and family and natural sexual reproduction are encouraged. Sexually transmitted diseases proliferate and chaotic encounters between individuals increase resulting in hostilities, crimes, and death.
In modern times, some trafficked women are exploited as surrogate mothers. The natural ties between these biological mothers and their children are broken. There are few abuses of women that rise to this level. What anguish fills their hearts! Yet, leaders look the other way and do nothing, pretending that all is done "ethically!"
When it comes to what is now called "gender dysphoria," the harms that arise from intentionally medically imposed deviations from the biological characteristics of one's sex at birth are not recognized. Although through mostly estrogenic gender-bending chemical pollution from many, many sources, some epigenetic changes result in actual "transgender" infants and children, not all those seeking medical aid in transgendering are naturally-occurring "intersex" or "transgender" individuals!
The world's leaders are not working hard or even at all to remove the gender-bending chemical pollution that pervades modern society, and that subsequently affects embryonic and fetal human beings as they develop. This leads to ever more biological and psychological problems for those consequently born with different sexual characteristics. It is a completely disregarded and almost universally unacknowledged but major problem in our world! The industrial leaders look more to their short-term profit than to the lifelong harms imposed on the victims of the hundreds of gender-bending chemicals.
Just as the young in the 1960s and 70s were victims of the "counter-culturists" and led astray, most of those with gender dysphoria have been encouraged to be confused from a young age by Leftist parents or teachers. They are victims of those promoting the "cancel culture" who exploit them for the purpose of supposedly invalidating the God created differences between man and woman as well as their wonderful complementarity.
They believe the simple existence of transgenders completely undermines the basis for the Biblical worldview, and in practice, this cancel culture uses "transgenderism" and encourages more and more of it even if biological transgenderism is not present. "Transhumanist" changes as well as transgender changes are used as a pretext to condemn the Biblical worldview, all of Christianity, and Judaism.
Hormone blockers that are given to children to prevent puberty may result in permanent sterility, bone loss, lowered IQ, and other chronic medical issues though the leaders tell the people these hormones are harmless and all effects are reversible; they are not! In effect, physicians who participate in such medical experimentation — and that is what it is — are committing medical abuse. The results of this trend will only be fully realized in the years to come when the anguish of the victims becomes more and more undeniable. The mental health issues that existed from the beginning remain, and though evidence and reports about the negative consequences of these "transitions" are suppressed by the media, the mental health issues often become worse!
"Gender dysphoric children who are treated using a “watchful waiting” approach largely desist, no longer identify as transgender as adults, and accept their bodies as they are. Those who are subjected to medical intervention do not."77
Those who do not revere God, life, natural marriage, and family, begin their reasoning from a faulty foundation and therefore, though they are "wise in their own eyes," their conclusions eventually contradict the most basic principles of the natural moral law as well as the Divine Law (Isaiah 5:21).
Their reasoning is often based upon false assumptions. However intellectually "brilliant" they may be, and however "well-intentioned" they believe themselves to be, their conclusions are utterly faulty!
How many philosophers have completely repudiated their earlier thinking after logically analyzing their own positions? In some cases, they write nonsensical philosophical works that justify their preconceived ideas, and lead others astray. As we are all prone to do, they think as the finite and fallible human beings they and we are. With the limited understanding we all share, they do not concern themselves foremost with prudently striving to understand what God in His divine wisdom has guided us to do in life (Matthew 16:21-23).
As Aristotle said,
"A small error in the beginning leads to a multitude of errors in the end." — De Coelo78
Moreover, huge errors in the beginning lead to disastrous and truly evil consequences!
In these cases where terribly proud man knows no restraint on his arrogance at all, and where humility is given no place, science, technology, industry, the arts, entertainment, media, government, and all other aspects of society and human endeavor are tainted, misaligned with human nature, and utterly misused. Tyranny reigns. Terrible plagues are unleashed as biowarfare! Never before-known weapons kill so many! This is the culture of death on the march (Revelation 6:8)!
Intolerance, hatred, oppression, violence, disease, and war proliferate. Barbaric, callous treatment of the people is commonplace. Increasing numbers of individuals are made to die or consciously murdered. The elderly, disabled, ailing, and shockingly, the most vulnerable and innocent of all, the unborn — who are fully embryonic or fetal human beings — are targeted and discarded like trash!79
Here's where we again need to understand that there are different systems of ethics that suggest how we should live, what is moral, or what is right. To put it plainly: all cultures are not equal. Just as each of us is unique, each culture is different from all others. Those individuals who do not strive to habitually guide their thoughts and actions according to principles that arise out of the ethics of life found in the Divine Law and natural moral law will go astray:
.... if a person habitually acts unethically, sooner or later this habit can effect even his or her ability to think objectively and correctly about the physical world itself - which, in turn, will cause his decision making processes to start with incorrect information about the physical world - which, in turn, will corrupt every step in his entire individual decision making process - etc., etc.
In fact, the use of incorrect information or data can negatively impact not only scientific and public policy decision making - but even moral decision making as well.
And this in turn will negatively impact the integrity of the individual and his or her relationship with society and the environment. ["only a good thinking man acts good" but, he adds, "only a good acting man thinks good" (Aristotle, "Ethica Nichomachea", in McKeon, 1941, p. 1035]80
Each culture has its plusses and minuses and some promote freedom, life, and prosperity, while others have horrifically negative characteristics. The Nazis, the communist governments in the former Soviet Union, Cuba, Vietnam, China, Venezuela, and other totalitarian nations all crush the spirit of the people, "hamstring" the ability of the people to prosper, and necessarily lead to what can only be called palpable evil.
When the nation's "ship of state" is intentionally made to careen way over to one side - as some actually do intend to do — it will tilt and "sink." No nation or empire will forever remain untouched by the huge forces exerted from within and without that vie for power to seize and control its wealth, territory, people, and other resources.
Through thousands of years, many nations and empires have come and gone. None of us can escape this reality. However, God blesses those nations that affirm and follow the Divine and natural moral law.
People who doubt this can think of it another way: those who live according to principles that actually respect the actual shared reality of this world succeed! Those who understand how to nourish life whether in farming or in all aspects of society and do so, prosper.
The founders of the original Christian colonies, and of the United States recognized these basic principles and created a Constitution and Bill of Rights that strived to conform to these and plant the seeds of an ever more perfect union. However, they also recognized that only a moral people could retain this experiment in self-government.
George Washington said in his Farewell Address, "It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government"81
The 2nd president of the United States, John Adams, said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."82
Therefore, leaders who subscribe to communist, Nazi, or Islamist morality will completely undermine the foundation for the truly unique American experiment which is certainly based upon Judeo-Christian principles! They consciously desire to destroy it and have said so.
It was John Wycliffe, the first translator of the Bible into English in 1384 who wrote, "This Bible is for the Government of the People, by the People, and for the People." His translation allowed ordinary people to read and understand it for themselves.
We think of these words as explaining upon what basis a just government should be based, but it is also clear that it necessarily means that the people should individually guide their own choices in life based upon the wisdom found in the Bible. Biblical wisdom guides us in making choices in life, helping us to choose to live in a way that leads to fulfilling lives and a just society.
Almost 500 years later, it was President Abraham Lincoln who brought this quote into modern usage by including it in his 1863 Gettysburg Address, and he and the founders have made it very clear that the nation's freedoms and respect and concern for every individual's life, God-given rights, and well-being are based upon the Bible.83
Former President Obama mocked those who strive to live according to these very same Biblical principles! How could he do so? He clearly has never been a Christian. He even called those who strive to live by Biblical principles, "bitter clingers."
Hillary Clinton called them "deplorables." These "progressives"/communists — or Islamists as well — in fact believe themselves to be eloquent, and others consider them to be "elite."
It is clear that those who have chosen to align themselves with the cultures of death simply do not accept Biblical principles and are aligned with all sorts of evils: abortion up to and including birth, euthanasia, depriving citizens of their rights to speak freely, bear arms to defend themselves (from corrupted government!), assemble, freely publish their thoughts and writings, and so many other freedoms. Tyrants know no limits when it comes to protecting their power over the people!84
Ultimately, whether it is a communist or Islamic State they desire, they will trample the individual in order to assure State control. They consider the State to be supreme and unassailable, and will destroy any who resist the power of that State.
Quite to the contrary, a culture of life is life-affirming and considers the protection of the life He gives as a central principle according to which everyone's actions should be guided. It is characterized by the ability to courteously debate and freely exchange ideas. The ultimate foundation for such mutual respect among the people in societal interaction is their shared reverence for God (Matthew 7:24, 25).
This God - the God who is - is beyond our understanding. His Being is a mystery, however we can think of Him as pure Justice from which the Divine Law and Love spontaneously arise just as pure water flows from a spring (Revelation 22).
He does not have Justice as His nature; He is Justice.
He does not have love as His nature; He is Love.
He does not have the light of pure Intelligence — Pure Reason, the "Logos" or "Word" — He is that!
For we, too, do not have our lives, but are the lives He made us to be! He did not tell us, "I have the way and I have the truth and the life."
Jesus answered,
"I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
- John 14:6
As the apostle John wrote:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
— John 1:1-5
People think about these verses in different ways and they may all be valid. However, the most common understanding of the Greek term, "Logos" — which is translated as "Word" — refers to the divine Son of God, the Savior of mankind, who existed "in the beginning" before all Creation (Genesis 1; 3:22). It is He through whom "all things came into being."
The term, "Logos," is also understood to mean "Reason," but in this case divine and unlimited Reason! The Logos/Reason/Word existed at the beginning, even before Creation, so there were no spoken words at that time as we know them! He simply was existing — Being.
The principle that underlies reason is pure Intelligence: Omniscience, Understanding, and Comprehension! And so, with this added perspective, we can think of Him as unendingly Being, unendingly Understanding or Intelligence. It is this wonderful, Sacred Intelligence or Wisdom that guided all that exists to be what it was created to be in its perfection, just as the skillful carpenter enables him to conceive of and will his creations into works of beauty and utility (Proverbs 8).
This is the living Intelligence that is the One, the eternal Life, but none of us who live in darkness can understand Him, because He is beyond anything we could ever understand! The principle of comprehension, which gave Light to the world, was and is not comprehended by we who dwell in darkness.
Nevertheless, He came to us that we may have life abundantly (John 4:14; 10:10) and that we may no longer suffer in this darkness that pervades the world (John 12:46-47)!
This is a mystery that many find incomprehensible! For the secular, it appears completely nonsensical. Even for those who consider themselves among "the religious" but have not opened themselves to the Holy Spirit of God, it remains a mystery (John 3:1-21).
When the secular look out at the world, they see things all around them, objects to discover, enjoy and acquire, but nothing sacred. For them, even the animals, plants, and other human beings have no intrinsic value beyond what one might experience. If someone were to die, no special attention need be given.
However, the blessed of God recognize the mystery involved in the Life above, and life itself wherever it is found around us all. To consider oneself religious or "spiritual" does not enable one to truly recognize this mystery. In fact, none of us are "spiritual," because there is only One Holy Spirit!
Many of us look out at the world and see almost nothing sacred. And even those who once were awakened to a sense of the sacred, soon forget and become lost into this world, experiencing it as simply a profane and dreary world. The blessed, however, understand that everything around us is miraculous and sacred. They perceive His reflected glory in its beauty.
Yes, life itself is a mystery! However much we learn scientifically, there will always be more to learn! And, we may still ask, "Why should there even be life?" The answer is that He willed it. The amazing reality is that He is the Creator and we are the created.
We can study and analyze and discover so many objective facts, but do we really understand how it is we exist? For example, people may look at a waterfall and consider that they have seen the waterfall, but a waterfall is not just one thing. The waters are always changing and never the same though they take almost the same path year after year after year. A waterfall is happening. Water is falling. It is movement, change, and inspiring.
If we look up at the sky, all the beautiful patterns of clouds and light swirl above us in a constantly changing demonstration of God's genius in creating our world as He has. Artists attempt to capture something of that beauty, but never achieve its fullness. Singers and composers attempt to capture the richness of beauty, love, and caring but also never achieve the fullness of what it is itself.
Even you, those around, or I -- we are always who we are, but we are never exactly the same as we were. We are ever-changing, developing, and living. We are existing. This is an ongoing process that never ceases from the moment we begin till the moment of death.
In this, we reflect His image. He is not a static thing! He is always what He is but like the waterfall, He is ever existing. While He remains always the same yesterday, today, and forever, He also involves some mysterious type of change because He is a living God. A living God is not static like a rock.
God is like a waterfall of living water pouring out life, beauty, and Creation throughout the universe. Eternally Being!85
Though God created all that is, His creating continues in some way throughout eternity. We see new life created every day somewhere in this world! His loving and giving continues forever!
Because anything that we could say about Him or He could say about Himself in words would be inadequate even if true, the most accurate description — as we have seen — would be what He told Moses from the burning bush: "I am that I am" (Exodus 3:14). He is what He is, and anyone who meets Him is, at that time: awestruck, humbled, speechless, and entranced.
These are the blessed who later speak of Him, praise Him, and invite others to find the most valuable of all treasures: God Himself. The Root of all life: the Radical who upturns the lives of any who encounter Him. He is the Teacher -- the only teacher who conveys the Truth of His ever-flowing living waters. It is He who speaks whenever the blessed share His truth (Luke 12:12; John 14:8-11).
God is not a thing. He is happening and being eternally! He is not a happening or a being among others.
It was His will that every bit of Creation from the tiniest plant or animal to the unimaginable immensities of galaxies and interstellar space proclaim and reflect His mysterious glory at every moment.
Yes, we are told that man was cast out of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), but the blessed who have received His Spirit have been in part restored to fellowship with Him while living in this world (John 3:5). In that sense, the blessed exist within a garden of His grace and at times may mercifully be made aware that He walks besides them and that the Holy Spirit who reaches out to us and who dwells within those who accept Him, encourages them as they journey through this life.
Yet, it may sound backwards or "counter-intuitive," but the blessed are first enabled to recognize the sheer horror of their own sin. As a grace from God, they not only perceive the sacred Presence, but are also so profoundly aware of that sin and selfishness within (Mark 7:21) that they are crushed with the significance and weight of it! If they are not, they have hardly begun to come close to approaching Him.
It is not enough to mouth the words, "I repent, for I have sinned." We must truly be impacted by it, recognize that this is a continuing aspect of who we are, and feel genuine remorse, not only when first perceived, but thereafter. This is the beginning of humility — which everyone of us do not naturally possess!
As St Teresa of Avila said,
... beware of the poisonous reptiles—that is to say, the bad thoughts and aridities which are often permitted by God to assail and torment us so that we cannot repel them. Indeed, perchance we feel their sting! He allows this to teach us to be more on our guard in the future and to see whether we grieve much at offending Him.
- The Interior Castle, Second Mansion, Chapter 1:1686
Yes, we must actually grieve upon knowing what lies within us! And then, with His grace, and enabled to perceive His presence, it is not possible for the blessed then to hate, kill, or fail to care for those in need. However, being imperfect and proud, all of us often and tragically do betray Him, though so many of us assume we do not (Matthew 16:23).
We really are so ignorant, that, like the disciple Peter who thrice denied Him, we do not know what we do! Therefore, He forgives us if we finally understand our fatal error and our position in relation to Him (Matthew 16:23; Luke 23:34).
What a most glorious, most merciful, and beloved God He is!
When we open and wholly give our hearts to Him, He reveals the most Sacred Heart He eternally is to us!
And then, we will understand our real position in life.
And then, with deep humility, we will serve and adore Him and revere the lives He gives us to serve.
